Taming the Junk Drawer

In our <a href="http://goo.gl/CCk22n" target="_blank">Kitchen remodel</a> a few years ago, we were able to convert several of the cabinets to drawers. While I think drawers are a more efficient use of space than cabinets, they are easy victims for accumulating junk. It's just so easy to toss in any random object, then quickly close the drawer and ignore what's happening inside. Along with junk, they used to hold many of my random craft supplies...but were left mostly empty. {Organized} The Fun Happy Garage

Hi friends!!! I hope you enjoyed the beautiful long weekend! We were thrilled to have our son back home, and spent some great family time together. The kids and I have actually headed out on our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/06/scenes-from-family-road-trip.html" target="_blank">annual trek</a> to Tennessee. We'll take our time getting there, then spend the week with our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/06/scenes-from-family-road-trip.html" target="_blank">dear friends</a> in Nashville. Follow our Tour de Junk Food on InstaGram<i> (@cassiesugarplum).</i><br /><br />I've been showing you the Garage overhaul, bit-by-bit, and today it's finally all complete! I figured there's no harm in going color-crazy in the garage, right? Oh who am I kidding, the other side of this door is already pretty crazy <i>(it's the <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/12/mudroom-complete.html" target="_blank">Mudroom</a>)</i>. <br /><br />I created a small landing zone for things we need quick access to...like sunscreen, bug spray and a flashlight. There are also some fun hooks for things I don't necessarily want in the house yet...like sweaty hats and wet towels. My New Desk Nook

Along with the organizing bug, for me January brings a desire to create time for stillness. And, like most of you, also the desire to simplify and hold close those that matter most. We've worked hard on the little desk nook of the Family Room...remember, it was a wet bar, then we closed it in and painted the room. After that, I created a workspace with a chunky desktop and distressed shelves. Happy Friday everyone, I hope you had a great day with loved ones yesterday! We had a perfectly lazy day, ending with a ridiculous amount of food. I'm so grateful for elastic-waists today! Are you hitting up any of the Black Friday sales? On a whim, I ran over to Target last night around 11, since the Santa Wish List for an 11-year-old son is not cheap, I was hoping to snag a deal. But <i>daaaaaaaaaang</i>, it was total jailbreak....no deals for me. The associate practically laughed in my face when I asked if the $200 Xboxes were still available.<br /><br />So today we're staying close to home, where it's safe and quiet! On a recent visit to The Container Store <i>(a 'visit' means you just go to look around, not to buy)</i>, I discovered they were having a <a href="http://www.containerstore.com/shop/shelvingSale" target="_blank">25% off Shelving Event</a>. Well, my inner manic couldn't let that pass...so I loaded up my cart with a discounted <a href="http://www.containerstore.com/shop/elfa/components/elfaDoorWallRackSystems" target="_blank">Door Rack System</a>. So much for just visiting.
