I'm either getting older, and thus wiser, or just busier...because when Babygirl's birthday rolled around last month, instead of being my usual crazy-lady self...running around making sure all the little details are done, and pictures are taken...I wanted to actually enjoy it, and memorize her face as she enjoyed it. Basically, this year I wanted to be the mommy of the birthday girl, not the blogger. I didn't want to miss these sweet expressions as she soaked in all the attention of turning eight. *Cue ugly cry*

Hi Sugarplum | Polka Dot Art Party

I love, love, love planning, organizing and throwing a party, but sometimes I get so caught up in it, that I forget to enjoy it. So this year I kept everything very simple...I ordered supplies online from Minted, spent about 30 minutes preparing the decorations in the days before the party, and another 15 minutes actually setting it up. Except baking the cake....that's my favorite part.

My kids feel so fancy drinking these...and I love that they're natural with no sugar or artificial sweetener.

This is the third year Babygirl has had an Art Party....she knows what she likes! The last two were Rainbow themed, so this year we went with polka dots, and used mostly pinks, blues and gold. Even without a theme, if you stick with a specific color palette for all your supplies and decor, the party will have a cohesive feel.

I didn't over think where and how I'd set up...I just arrived at the party location, and used the open table. My mom and friends helped me cover the table in pink & gold wrapping paper, hang the banner, and set out some pre-made decorations. Mr. Sugarplum picked up the nugget tray and brought the food in. Voila! It's a party!

I snapped a few quick pictures to remember the day, then got to focus on these cute faces.

Babygirl celebrated with her two passions...horses and art.

While the paintings dried, it was chow time. Like last year, I used scrapbook paper as chargers...this time set up in an ombre pattern, with basic white plates and bright polka-dot napkins.

Having a cake with a surprise on the inside has become a tradition for her...one year it was rainbow, and last year tie-dye...this time we went with polka dots. I'm planning a post on all the details.

I'm wearing the exact outfit shown here.
Each sliver revealed more polka dots in different colors.

We love this little girl so much...she's brought so much joy to our family. I can't believe she's already eight...especially since I'm only 21?!

It was another successful Art Party...and I actually relaxed and enjoyed every little bit of it. Maybe third time is a charm for me.
