{DIY} Tassel Pillow

<u></u>Does it seem like I've been talking about <a href="http://goo.gl/v09Xf7" target="_blank">our Patio Refresh</a> forever?!? I guess I got carried away with the DIY projects on this space, but sometimes I just can't help myself. And when the mood strikes, I have to ride that wave out. And even though it's taken me a month to post them, I actually whipped them all out in a single afternoon. Quick and simple is the name of the game around here, remember?!<br /><br />When we added the black and white striped umbrella to the patio, I picked up a lumbar pillow from Ikea in the same color scheme to unite the space. But he looked a little sad and plain...so of course I had to zhush him up. I immediately thought of Kristin's tassel pillow, and decided to do something similar.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="656" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2939/14803844525_54609fdb24_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>{What You Need}</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Embroidery string or Yarn</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>(I actually used Hemp String for a sturdier tassel with more structure)</i></div><div style="text-align: center;">Embroidery Needle</div><div style="text-align: center;">Scissors</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cardboard Piece cut to size of your desired tassel</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="461" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3914/14803844505_255ac1b80f_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>{What You Do}</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">There are tons of tassel tutorials online, but I meshed a few together for a method that worked best for me. I wanted a multi-colored tassel, so I chose the three colors predominantly used in the patio...orange, hot pink and white...and lined them up as a single strand.</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="542" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3883/14803844405_d3c3aa37da_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />Holding the end of the strands, wrap the string around the folded cardboard until you have the desired fullness.<br /><br /><i>Tip: Your folded cardboard will represent the final length of the tassel.</i><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="510" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/14617313197_4ca8a35152_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />Hold the strands on the folded end in place, and cut the strings on the open end. Tie and trim. {Backyard DIY} Nautical Towel Rack

When we <a href="http://goo.gl/v09Xf7" target="_blank">refreshed our patio space</a> last month, one of the issues I needed to address was the wet towel situation. Specifically, the wet towels that were always left puddled on the ground, or thrown over the backs of all the chairs. Not only was it not good for the cushions, but it looked junky and drove me crazy. However, I couldn't really complain too much about it, since we didn't have a real spot in which to hang said wet towels. And wet bathing suits. And bags. And goggles. Plus, it wasn't the right size for our space. We went with screws shorter than the thickness of the board so they won't poke out the back...that way the board lies flat against the wall.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Nautical Towel Rack" height="703" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2899/14583110930_317e2e6ced_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />Using longer screws, attach the board directly to the wall by drilling through the front of the board on both ends. I can't thank you guys enough for your kind comments and emails regarding <a href="http://goo.gl/iY7KpM" target="_blank">yesterday's post</a>. It's always scary to peel back the blog, and reveal true parts of your heart...but every time, you're so encouraging and gracious about it. It's interesting, and sad, how many of us share similar situations in our own families. Refreshed Patio Space Revealed!

Whether or not to participate in <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2013/04/home-depot-challenge-patio-reveal.html" target="_blank">last year's Patio Challenge</a> was a no-brainer, especially since we started with a barren, blank slate of a back patio <i>(see the before shots <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2013/02/home-depot-challenge-patio-progress.html" target="_blank">here</a>)</i>. Granted, we have a pool, so it wasn't completely awful, but we had no ambiance or place to actually enjoy it! Thanks to Home Depot and some manual labor, we were able to transform the space, and have enjoyed it ever since.<br /><br />But after living with it for a year, we realized a few simple changes and additions would make it a true outdoor living room, in essence, giving our home more usable square-footage, and fully utilizing the pool area.
