Stylish Halloween Bash

Halloween is a much-loved holiday around the Sugarplum house. I'd like to say it's because our kids are at prime trick-or-treating age, but the Mister and I love it just as much. It's always a fun night hanging out with all the neighbors, and seeing the creative costumes.<br /><br />We usually have friends over to eat and celebrate before going out, so I like to have a little decor sprinkled around the house. <a href="http://bit.ly/HiSugarplum" target="_blank">Command Brand</a> recently released a new line of party products <i>(found online, or in the party aisle at your local WalMart)</i>, and I couldn't wait to see them in action. Let's just call them game-changers, shall we?! <i>(Sidenote: my <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/03/lamp-looza-winners-hiding-those-pesky.html" target="_blank">How to Hide Lamp Cords</a> using Command hooks remains my most popular post...so clearly we all love those little gems!)</i><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="825" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2949/15285582607_0be434d910_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>{What's New}</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHXEXL4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NHXEXL4&linkCode=as2&tag=hisug-20&linkId=INLZF53BYB4MY6QW">Command Party Ceiling Hooks/</a>/ for hanging poofs & lanterns from the ceiling!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHXEXRI/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NHXEXRI&linkCode=as2&tag=hisug-20&linkId=2TTYY2UTHR747O7Q">Command Party Banner Anchors</a>// perfect for garland & pennants</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHXEXVE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NHXEXVE&linkCode=as2&tag=hisug-20&linkId=R5RXH3BD6U6D3FHC">Command Party Mini Spring Clips</a> // place signage & art on the wall</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHXEXNW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NHXEXNW&linkCode=as2&tag=hisug-20&linkId=T4KLD3WWQEMWHOCF">Command Party Balloon Bunchers</a>// hang balloons on the wall in bunches of 3</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHXEXZ0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NHXEXZ0&linkCode=as2&tag=hisug-20&linkId=C2PIF4R6X5ECOWZF">Command Party Small Clear Mounting Strip</a>// for posters, signs & photos</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="479" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5613/15471808282_52dec07345_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><a href="http://bit.ly/1kfF55d" target="_blank">World Market</a> is always my favorite spot for finding stylish Halloween decor that's not too gory or kitschy. I was drawn to the Dia de los Muertos collection because of all the color. I also have a thing for Mexican-style decor <i>(as evidenced by our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/03/pool-bathroom-reveal.html" target="_blank">Pool Bathroom</a>)</i>. Some of these things I'd use year-round!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="678" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3944/15469012301_b0cea61969_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />The Balloon Buncher is pure genius...just blow up regular latex balloons <i>(no helium necessary!)</i>, and slide them into each buncher, and press on the wall! After the party, they come right off!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="621" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5608/15449058956_d1ebbd7374_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />I used several to make a wall of balloons as a backdrop to the drink station.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="791" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3944/15285581557_b16b276902_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />A dancing sugar skull hangs from a ceiling clip nearby. Imagine the possibilities now that we can hang party decor from the ceiling <i>(from clear hooks no less, as opposed to tape that always falls down)</i>...like a large cluster of tissue poofs over a table.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="786" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3939/15449060746_3a995544f0_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />For the drink station, I simply placed a tray found at Home Goods on our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/07/diy-outdoor-patio-bar-cart.html" target="_blank">DIY Gold Barcart</a>, and loaded it up with drinks, cups and straws. And a few festive nutcrackers.<br />  <br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="728" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3949/15449060526_d123a86693_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="724" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3951/15471807992_4f058c9260_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />The table is draped with striped fabric, and decorated with assorted candles and dishes, and a cob-web table runner is attached to the light. The shadows it makes at night are a fun touch.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="686" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2947/15472141055_3fbb3716ba_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Colorful & Stylish Halloween Party" height="726" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2947/15285437640_6734b35459_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />Hanging banners and garland are a cinch with the Banner Anchors...just attach the anchor to the wall, and loop the string around it. Orange Creamsicle Party

Well, it's officially sweat season around here. Not to be confused with sweater season. Quite the opposite, actually! We hit 90-degrees last week, so our weekends have now moved outside. Which means cookouts, s'mores in the chiminea, pool parties, and lots of visiting friends. Thank goodness our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2013/04/home-depot-challenge-patio-reveal.html" target="_blank">patio got a makeover</a> last year! I adore this time of year, and all the bright colors and flavors that come with it. <br /><br />But the Texas heat requires treats that are cold and refreshing....like this orange creamsicle float!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="696" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7339/14068163506_9bc7c23f9d_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b>{Ingredients}</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Orange Zevia All-Natural Soda</div><div style="text-align: center;">Vanilla Bean Ice Cream<i> (get the good stuff!)</i></div><div style="text-align: center;">Vanilla Vodka <i>(optional)</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>{Directions}</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Stuff your glass with as much ice cream as it will hold</div><div style="text-align: center;">Pour two-fingers of Vanilla Vodka over top<i> (optional)</i></div><div style="text-align: center;">Fill the rest of the cup with Orange Zevia</div><div style="text-align: center;">Garnish with wafer cookies and orange candies</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="635" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7037/14091720034_01a74c7a44_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />We invited a few friends over to celebrate the new season, and I used the bright colored soda cans as decor inspiration. Sticking with shades of orange and yellow, and using citrus fruits as accents, gave everything a fun and cohesive look, with little effort.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="686" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7374/13904634989_cb3e0ca3c4_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="725" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2936/13904670970_81872a8cd7_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />Have you seen <a href="http://goo.gl/VdqpVH" target="_blank">Susty Party supplies</a>?! They were just featured on the TV show, <i>Shark Tank</i>, last week, and are pretty much the cutest ever. Not to mention environmentally-friendly. <br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="676" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7177/14088051671_a2e404a1ba_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="443" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2905/14088052931_f12496a4bb_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />The kids had fun creating their own non-alcoholic floats, and the grown-ups enjoyed the extra kick in theirs! We don't drink much soda, but with no artificial colors or sweeteners, I don't have to worry about them drinking Zevia. Who knew orange soda wasn't supposed to be orange?!?<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="595" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7341/14088146252_d8dc408985_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="749" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7397/14111343603_c710d11408_o.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="550" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Potting Bench found<a href="http://bit.ly/1nNsjPH" target="_blank"> here</a></td></tr></tbody></table></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="696" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5234/13904650777_9b010b2c84_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />You could use orange sorbet for an even lighter treat, but the ice cream makes it so thick and creamy. <br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="698" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5502/13904670020_971210b1d7_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="717" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7418/14111343393_23e34409b9_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="670" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7205/14091721464_143125a78c_o.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="550" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Serape Runner found <a href="http://www.elchamaco.com/mexican-blankets.php" target="_blank">here</a></td></tr></tbody></table></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="708" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5551/14068163986_149f40ae21_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="611" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5576/14088052441_2ca6208b32_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="703" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7431/14111342793_c0e284f7a7_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="641" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2927/14088053531_4933721a21_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="684" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5517/13904651907_090982597f_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Orange Creamsicle Float Party" height="618" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7360/14088052061_0c9c8b2cc7_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />What's your favorite ice cream float flavor, or your go-to Summertime drink? Mother's Day Tea Party

My mom and I have a close, special relationship, and I'm so grateful to have her in my life. She is always smiling and laughing, and just so much fun to be around. Babygirl and I decided we needed a little girl time, so we invited 'Noonie' to join us for an early Mother's Day Tea. We put on our favorite dresses, and headed to an adorable neighborhood caf<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span id="docs-internal-guid-943d4af0-b53e-9fe5-558f-a8c98f0e7b55" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">é</span></span></span> for a 3-course tea, fit for a princess.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="491" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/14049285462_e9d74eb836_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="630" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2897/14052488075_362c56ac81_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />I thought about hosting a tea party at home, but sometimes it's nice to let others pamper you!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="661" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7193/14049285621_a0a90b283c_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />I don't know much about tea <i>(except sweet tea...I'm a connoisseur of that!)</i>, and there were so many to choose from, but we thought Mother's Bouquet was pretty suitable for the occasion.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="513" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7304/14052486915_b3f5ab7f32_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="645" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7429/14052937374_9cecb888e1_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />A first course of scones, sweet breads, fruit, fresh cream and jam...I'm drooling just remembering it!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="655" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7402/14049288662_207d6bb52b_o.jpg" width="550" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="495" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/14072506003_ccd24f64d2_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Mother's Day Tea" height="529" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5488/14049285592_15cf77f7ef_o.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />Could my mom be any prettier?!
