{DIY} Gold Leaf Agate Coasters

When it comes to gold paint and gold leaf, I have no shame. My connection to Liberace runs deep, and I'll slap some gold on just about anything that will sit still. One of the upsides of organizing my craft supplies, was re-discovering products....specifically this Liquid Gilding. I immediately scouted the house looking for something to glam, and 10 minutes later I had some jazzy new agate coasters!

I picked these faux agate coasters up several months ago on clearance here, so not sure if they are still available...but a pricier version is available here. I know they aren't fooling anyone into thinking they're real, but I liked the pink color, and texture they add to vignettes. And I liked the $10 price tag.

This little jar of Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding goes a long way...but is also highly toxic (i.e. super stinky, so hide the kids and dog).

I just used a small craft brush, and carefully painted the edges. The liquid pools a bit, but it adds to the authenticity of the gold.

It dried quickly, so I did several coats on each to make the gold more intense.

It's subtle, but definitely makes the coasters look more expensive.
