{DIY} Pom Pom Throw

It's no secret I love tassels and pom poms...I've shamelessly been adding them to everything from <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/08/diy-tassel-pillow.html" target="_blank">pillows</a> and <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/08/5-steps-to-fabulous-foyer.html" target="_blank">purses</a>, to <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-no-sew-pom-pom-tree-skirt.html" target="_blank">tree skirts</a> and <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/05/diy-pom-pom-box.html" target="_blank">boxes</a>, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Can there be too many adornments in a room or outfit? The jury is still out, but for me, I say<i> no way!</i> #gimmeallthepompoms<br /><br />After <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/09/diy-pom-pom-pillow.html" target="_blank">adding poms to my David-Hicks-look-a-like pillow</a>, I starting looking around for something else to pom. It's the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10212129/" target="_blank">Eivor throw from Ikea</a>, and apparently it's a requisite for every home blogger to own one. I have three, does that make me a super-blogger, or a hoarder?! I digress.</div></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | DIY Pom Pom Throw" height="767" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3938/15494410271_51a1233cd3_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />I used <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/09/diy-pom-pom-pillow.html" target="_blank">this method</a>, but instead of wrapping the yarn around my hand, I used a 5-inch upholstery hoop for larger poms. I've been searching high-and-low for the perfect pillow to connect all the pieces in our Living Room, and I'm thrilled to have finally found it. {Cool Tip} Ikea Ribba Hack

I've never been so happy that our guest/kids bathroom is so small! I think the only time you wish a room smaller, is when you're painting the ceiling! Ohmywow, is there anything worse or more painful?! <i>(Obviously, there is, but go with me here.) </i><br /><br />My rockstar-contractor <i>(hyphenated because that's his name)</i> is set to finish tiling the shower, and start the tile floors today, so I wanted to paint the ceiling first so I wouldn't have to worry about splatters and drips ruining my beautiful new tile. I hope your weekend didn't leave you with a crick in your neck! Although, mine is worth it...the <a href="http://www.lowes.com/pd_34143-4-40052CMARKTWAINGRAYB_0__?productId=3813461" target="_blank">Valspar 'Mark Twain Gray Brick'</a> is dee-vine!! <i>(I'm talking about the <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/search/label/big%20box%20bathroom%20remodel" target="_blank">Big Box Bathroom remodel.</a>)</i><br /><br />Today I have a cool little tip for you fans of the Ikea Ribba frames. Or any matted frames, really. I love using landscape photos from our travels to decorate our walls, and in most cases, we use the 12x17 frames. <i>(See our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2012/10/family-room-filling-big-wall.html" target="_blank">travel gallery wall here.</a>)</i> But I wanted something much larger for the <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2013/05/dining-room-pink-there-it-is.html" target="_blank">Dining Room</a>.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Oversize Framed Art with Custom Mat" height="766" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2941/15175960899_5e9378a515_b.jpg" width="550" /> </div><br />I had a poster printed of a photo from our <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/p/travels.html" target="_blank">Italy trip</a> at Staples for a cool $20 <i>(watch for their sales)</i>. To keep the savings going, I chose the large 28x40 Ikea Ribba frame for $25. It's a great deal, especially considering the frame includes a mat, but I didn't care for the yellowy shade of the mat, or the asymmetrical opening.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Hi Sugarplum | Oversize Framed Art with Custom Mat" height="734" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3897/15359546591_6c17d375bf_b.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />To have a custom mat made would have cost $50 or more, but did you know Michaels only charges $2 per cut on your existing mats?! And since the flip-side of the mat was a nice bright white, I had them bevel the cut so the white side became the new front. At first I was disappointed it wasn't glass, but realized that would make it much too heavy. {DIY} Pom Pom Pillow

When the producers of the blogging video <i>(I shared it with you guys <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/09/that-time-i-made-video-about-blogging.html" target="_blank">here</a>)</i> informed me I'd actually be creating a project on-camera, I knew it needed to be something simple, quick, and wouldn't require me to get sweaty or curse.<i> (I can't promise I didn't swear, so thank goodness for editing.)</i><br /><br />I've loved <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/36451078209516134/" target="_blank">this pillow</a> from Amber Interiors Shoppe for awhile, but wanted to recreate it myself, and for a lot cheaper. There are no shortage of pom pom tutorials online <i>(including <a href="http://goo.gl/uttUNG" target="_blank">this one</a> from my talented friend <a href="http://goo.gl/uttUNG" target="_blank">Kristin of Hunted Interior</a>)</i>, but I ended up combining a few methods for one that worked best for me. It turned out to be perfect for the <a href="http://hisugarplum.blogspot.com/2014/09/that-time-i-made-video-about-blogging.html" target="_blank">video</a>, and one of my favorite projects! Many of you know we lived in Nashville for 10 years, before moving back to Texas to be closer to family. It's funny how you can't wait to fly the coop when you're young, but once you start a family of your own, you yearn to be as close to home as possible. We love Texas, but we certainly left a big piece of our hearts in Tennessee.<br /><br />Fortunately, we're able to visit our best Nashville friend <i>(I say 'our' because she's as much Mr. SP's friend as mine)</i>, every year. {DIY} Tassel Pillow

<u></u>Does it seem like I've been talking about <a href="http://goo.gl/v09Xf7" target="_blank">our Patio Refresh</a> forever?!? I guess I got carried away with the DIY projects on this space, but sometimes I just can't help myself. And when the mood strikes, I have to ride that wave out. And even though it's taken me a month to post them, I actually whipped them all out in a single afternoon. Quick and simple is the name of the game around here, remember?!<br /><br />When we added the black and white striped umbrella to the patio, I picked up a lumbar pillow from Ikea in the same color scheme to unite the space. But he looked a little sad and plain...so of course I had to zhush him up. I wanted a multi-colored tassel, so I chose the three colors predominantly used in the patio...orange, hot pink and white...and lined them up as a single strand.</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="542" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3883/14803844405_d3c3aa37da_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />Holding the end of the strands, wrap the string around the folded cardboard until you have the desired fullness.<br /><br /><i>Tip: Your folded cardboard will represent the final length of the tassel.</i><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="HI Sugarplum | DIY Tassel Pillow" height="510" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/14617313197_4ca8a35152_z.jpg" width="550" /></div><br />Hold the strands on the folded end in place, and cut the strings on the open end. Tie and trim.
